Ubuntu Linux 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" is out
By: Jinx  on: Thu 18 of Oct., 2007 18:39 CST  (824 Reads)
Asides from an updated version of Gnome and 3d Desktop effects out-of-the-box, Gutsy Gibbon adds more much wanted features to Ubuntu. One of which is the Restricted Driver manager:
"Restricted-manager can now handle drivers which are free in themselves, but which require non-free firmware or other packages to operate. Only three clicks are needed to fetch and install firmware for wireless cards with Broadcom chipsets, and for a number of Winmodems commonly found in laptops, provided that you have an alternative Internet connection."

This should make it a whole lot easier for users to use hardware such as their Wireless cards. smile

There is also the added bonus of having the NTFS-3g driver integration... meaning you can now write to your NTFS partition. So, for those dual booters, life should be a bit easier, as you can move data to and from your Windows partition (before it was read-only).

The Ubuntu mirrors are available here.
